He is the managing and founding partner of the law firm Miguel A. Maza & Associates, in San Juan, Puerto Rico established in 1994. Born in Cuba; he was admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey in, and i the U.S. District Court, District Court of New Jersey in 1989 and the District Court of Puerto Rico in 1990. His admission to the Puerto Rico Supreme Court was in 1990 and the United State Appeals Court for the First Circuit was in 1991. He received his bachelor’s degree from Kearney State College in 1983, his master’s degree in labor-management relations from Indiana University in Pennsylvania (M.A., 1984) and the Juris Doctorate from New York Law School (J.D., 1988).

Mr. Maza began his legal career with the law firm of Dominguez & Totti, concentrating on labor and employment law from a management perspective where he was labor negotiator and an active litigator in matter such as wrongful termination, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, workplace harassment.
Recognized with the President’s Award of the Puerto Rico Bar Association in 1993. Author of “Introduction to the Mondragon Experiment,” 5:2 Journal of Basque Studies, p. 67-76 Fall 1984 Fresno, CA. He was president of the Commission for the Rights of Citizens with Disabilities of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, and member of the Board of Examiners of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico.

He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Puerto Rico Bar Association; He has been a member of the Association of Labor Relations Professionals. He was also an outside counsel for Schwartz, Simon & Edelstein, Livingston, New Jersey. He was a member of the Prisoners’ Rights Commission of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, 1998-1999. He is active member of the National Creditors Bar Association.

He became a founding partner in HMB Law Group, LLC in San Juan, Puerto Rico concentrating in mortgage foreclosures and evictions. He is also a Member of NCBA (National Creditors Bar Association); He has served on several boards of directors. He is a seasoned attorney in the following areas: employment discrimination; collective bargaining; wrongful termination; foreclosures and evictions, entertainment, commercial and consumer credit; and trademark law.
